The Climb to Greatness campaign was developed as the official statewide theme for North Carolina 4-H during the 2023–2024 program year.
The campaign was intended to provide a unifying visual and conceptual framework that counties and clubs could adapt for local programming, events, and outreach while maintaining a consistent statewide identity.
The initiative needed to function across a wide range of audiences, locations, and formats, from digital communications to in-person events, while remaining accessible and flexible for youth development professionals working across the state.
Introduction
As an officer of the North Carolina 4-H Council serving as the State 4-H Reporter, I led the development of the Climb to Greatness (CTG) campaign. My role focused on visual direction, messaging, and the creation of branded assets that could be used consistently across the state.
The campaign centered on the metaphor of climbing a mountain as a way to represent personal growth, leadership development, and resilience. The concept was designed to resonate with youth while remaining broad enough to apply across different programs and counties.
Rather than prescribing a single narrative, the theme was intended to support a range of interpretations tied to goal-setting, overcoming challenges, and making a positive impact.
Visual System Overview
The CTG visual system brings together strong, mountainous-inspired forms forms and strong typography to convey movement, progress, and determination. Angular shapes and structured compositions create a clear sense of upward direction, while subtle textural details add energy and depth without distracting from key messages.

Each element plays a defined role within the system. Color and type establish recognition and hierarchy, texture introduces visual rhythm, and form provides structure through angular layouts, mountain imagery, and consistent framing. Together, these elements help materials feel connected and intentional, even when adapted across different formats or created by different users.
Brand Elements
Created within established 4-H and NC State Extension brand requirements, the system balances consistency with flexibility. The result is a visual language that feels cohesive and motivating, while remaining practical and adaptable for use across a wide range of applications.
